A VERY SPECIAL COMMEMORATION OF AN 1862 ACT OF SUPREME COURAGE
...ON SITE

Crossing the Rappahannock: A Pilgrimage to Freedom
Saturday, September 22
9 AM - Noon

"Imagine the faith, will, and courage that fueled this remarkable quest for freedom."

The excitement is rising (and hopefully the river will not) as the plans for the September 22nd event are coming to fruition. Despite the fact that during the last 149 years, this happening at this site has never been celebrated, we are joyfully on the path to remedying that mistake and sharing this life-changing event.

The African American Heritage Alliance determined not to let the another year pass without recognizing the inspirational symbolism of Courage and Will so very evident in the accomplishment of the slaves who risked their lives to seek out freedom in August of 1862. Learn more about the history.

However, without the aid and support of numerous co-sponsors this endeavor would not be possible.  Please review the list of all the current CO-SPONSORS. Where there are websites available, they have been listed. Please visit those sites and when the opportunity presents itself, please express your gratitude!

The day will be enriched with the wonderful voices of the River Bank Choir. Click here to learn how you could add your voice.

Have you heard that there will be a recreation of the 1862 crossing? Are you thinking that you might want to be a part of that activity but don't know what is involved? Learn more about The River Walkers.

Directions: Please respect the privacy of the property owners and refrain from visiting this farm before or after this event without seeking permission.  We are most grateful that they have opened their land and their hearts to this opportunity. Click here.
